Dhoni was fined Tk 12 lakh for slow over rate. According to the IPL Code of Conduct, the captain will have to count the amount if he does not finish the over on time. A statement from the IPL said, “This is his (Dhoni’s) first mistake in the current IPL (IPL 2021). That is why he was fined only 12 lakh rupees. ”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants a team to finish 20 overs in 90 minutes in the current tournament. But Chennai could not do that. Even with 6 balls left in the allotted 20 overs, Delhi Capitals pocketed the victory. In other words, Chennai bowled 16.4 overs in Wankhede on Saturday. Despite that, Dhoni had to face a fine.
